CBI Questions Anil Ambani In Rs 2,900 Crore Bank Loan Case, Jai Anmol Ambani Also Under scrutiny
On Thursday, March 19, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) questioned Anil Ambani in connection with an alleged bank fraud case involving around Rs 2,929.05 crore. The case is linked to loans given by the SBI (State Bank of India) to Reliance Communication Ltd. (RCOM), and a complaint filed by the bank.
In the early morning, Anil Ambani came for investigation at the CBI headquarters in Delhi. According to the official, the agency has filed multiple FIRs in which it has accused the company of diverting and misusing loan funds, along with other financial inconsistencies.
In a statement, a representative of Anil Ambani confirmed that Anil would be appearing before the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) on March 19 and 20, 2026, for questioning in relation to an FIR registered following a complaint filed by the State Bank of India (SBI) concerning Reliance Communication Ltd. (RCOM). The representative also said that Ambani is fully cooperating with the investigation. The CBI had earlier registered the case against him on August 21, 2025, alleging that the SBI was defrauded of nearly Rs 2,929 crore.
In a related development, the agency also questioned Jai Anmol Ambani (son of Anil Ambani) on March 14, 2026. In connection with a separate bank fraud case. This case, registered in December, involves Reliance Housing Finance Limited (RHFL) and its farmer CEO, Ravindra Sudhalkar, and is related to alleged financial irregularities worth Rs228 crore.
The complaint filed by the bank accused Jai Anmol Ambani, RHFL, and others, including some unidentified officials, of cheating and illicit agreements. According to the FIR, the transaction under investigation was held in 2016 and 2019. Before registering the case, the CBI had also carried out searches at locations linked to Jai Anmol Ambani.
